Latino Radio Service (LRS): Broadcast Schedule

The broadcast schedule for LRS's Spanish- and Portuguese-language programming is still under development and therefore subject to frquent change. We hope to have a complete program grid available soon.

It should be noted that if Radio Bilingüe's audio stream should become unavailable, LRS will usually switch to Radio Netherland's Spanish- and Portuguese-language live Internet audio stream for all programming until Radio Bilingüe's programs become available again.  While Radio Netherland's live audio stream includes some programs that would not normally be included on LRS (such as Europarade--top 40 European music hits--and classical music), it is currently our only alternative when Radio Bilingüe live stream is not available.  Here is the program schedule for Radio Netherland's live Spanish- and Portuguese-language service.

Here is the general plan of our current broadcast schedule for Spanish-language programs:

    Latino Music Programs

  • Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 4:40 pm: Arriba el Norte (northern Mexican music) from Radio Bilingüe.
  • Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 2:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 am: Ritmos del Pueblo from Radio Bilingüe.
  • Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 pm: Rock en Español (new urban rock in Spanish from the U.S., Latin America and Spain) from Radio Bilingüe.
  • Tuesday from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, repeated on Friday at 11 pm: Éxitos Latinoamericanos from the Voice of America.
  • Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 pm: Música Popular del Recuerdo (Mexican pop; tropical and romantic ballads from Latin America) from Radio Bilingüe.
  • Friday from 10:00 to 10:59 pm: Rockin' Da House from Radio Biingüe.
  • Saturday 6:00 to 8:00 pm: Nuevo Canto (contemporary music from Latin America and U.S. Latinos with lyrics about political protest and social aspirations) from Radio Bilingüe.

  • Portuguese-language news programs from Radio Netherlands and Radio France Internationale can be heard every morning for 30 minutes starting at 2:30, 5:30 and 9:30 am and evenings Monday through Friday at 6:30 pm (all Portuguese-language broadcasts start on the half-hour; all broadcasts starting at the top of the hour are in Spanish)

If you can understand Spanish, you can also understand at least some Portuguese.  And the more you listen, the more you will learn and understand the language spoken by Latin America's largest (in both area and population) country (that's Brazil if you haven't guessed)  There are also people in Portugal (imagine that!) and Africa who speak Portuguese.  Try it, Portuguese is muito cool and the only way to samba!

For the convenience of Spanish-speakers learning Portuguese, corresponding Spanish-language programs have been scheduled the preceding half hour.  This way one can first listen to the news and features in Spanish and then hear a similar program in Portuguese, facilitating one's comprehension and acquisition of Portuguese.

If you are a Portuguese teacher whose students can hear the Latino Radio Service, let us know if you'd like modifications to our Portuguese-language schedule.
